How we review

Check one claim. Keep the context.

A careful review starts with one specific, accurately stated claim, not a judgment about a whole person, community, or culture. It looks at evidence that supports or challenges the statement, identifies what remains uncertain, and shows when the review was made.

The aim is to make the reasoning visible, not to tell anyone what they must believe or promise that a review will change a belief.

A clear review, step by step

  1. State the claim and its context. Preserve its wording and identify where it came from, who is speaking, and what the statement means. Separate a checkable factual statement from interpretation, value, or personal meaning.
  2. Show evidence that supports it. Describe relevant sources and explain how directly each one bears on the specific statement.
  3. Show evidence that challenges or qualifies it. Include material that points the other way, and explain the limits of sources instead of treating every reference as equally strong or relevant.
  4. Name what remains uncertain. Make gaps, disputed terms, conflicting records, and questions the available material cannot resolve clear. Do not fill a gap with an assumption.
  5. Mark the review date. Show when the specific claim review was last checked, so readers can distinguish it from later sources or updates.
  6. Offer a correction path. Make it possible to flag a misquote, missing context, outdated source, or factual error with enough detail to check it.

Culture, documented history, and lived experience

Documented cultural histories and lived experience deserve accurate context; they should not be collapsed into unsupported factual claims. Traditions, identities, spiritual meanings, and personal accounts should be described as such. If one specific factual statement is being assessed, keep it distinct from a community’s broader history or beliefs. Never label a culture as conspiratorial because a claim is unfamiliar, contested, or not established by the evidence under review.
